HISTORY OF MIRANDA KINDERGARTEN

The original Miranda Kindergarten, known as Miranda Nursery was built in the early 1950’s on Karimbla Road. A group of parents acquired a small piece of land from Council that had previously been used as a market garden, as the area was still quite rural. The original building was a single weatherboard hall type building and in the 1970’s a Capital Grant was used to extend and modernise the building now known as Miranda Kindergarten.

In 1986 a fire razed the building to the ground, though the loss was total, fortunately no human life was involved. The centre was relocated and up and running within two weeks at halls in Gymea and Taren Point. Generous donations of equipment from Cronulla, Jacaranda and Gymea Preschools assisted in providing two well equipped centres. The kindergarten moved again three months later to vacant classrooms in Caringbah Public School. A beautiful purposed centre was built by Sutherland Shire Council and opened in November 1987 in its current location on The Boulevarde in Miranda.

Although there has been continuous improvements over the years the real strength of Miranda Kindergarten is the continuing love and dedication of the staff, committees and parents combining their talents to provide a loving, educational environment where children are truly valued and appreciated.
